Model Shoot: Helen ZhangJuly 21st, 2011

Met up today with model Helen Zhang, since the weather was hot outside we were only going to shoot in studio, but we had an idea to shoot with graffiti so we hopped on google maps and started looking around for some graffiti in philly. We found a spot and decided to wait until after 5pm so it wouldn’t be as hot, so eventually we bared the heat and ventured outside. On the way to our shoot location we looked at the temperature gauge in the car and it said 101 degrees!! And that was around 6pm when it wasn’t even the hottest point of the day… Wow!! But yeah, we had a lot of fun and got tons of great images that I can’t wait to share later.

Here is some video clips of Helen’s shoot & post shoot interview!

Model Shoot – Gabby (round 2)July 18th, 2011

It is always a pleasure to shoot fun & interesting models who are excited and open to do many things! This beautiful girl needs no introduction, Gabby has been seen on my blog already once before… I shot Gabby back in February, on my birthday, because she needed head shots for her agency. We didn’t shoot on my birthday for any special reason, it just so happened that she was available to shoot that day and so was I. So now that she is already in that one agency, she is looking to get into a new agency and they wanted to see her with a different hair style so she came to me again for head shots.. She really only wanted head shots, and a couple quick shots outdoors, but we went picture crazy and didn’t put an end to our fun until about 4 hours later! I can’t tell which is my favorite, both studio and outdoors photos were fun and she enjoyed everything. She is soo fun and enthusiastic and open for anything, she will do good modeling/acting!

Here is Gabby’s post shoot interview!
(Be sure to watch it in 1080p HD!!)

Wedding – High Resolution DiskJune 24th, 2011

Most of my wedding packages include High Resolution Disk, but some do not. And sometimes my couples do not even get a package they just pick and choose what they want. Honestly it’s up to the couple to decide what they want, not everyone wants every single picture taken on their wedding put on a disk. Some couples are happy to just have some 4×6 and 8×10 prints and an album which is just fine! Most of my couples that want the High Resolution Disk are the type of people that enjoy putting together their own albums and making their own prints, and they are really creative! And it is actually really cost effective to get all of the high resolution files on disk also!

Before & After – Professional Wedding Photo EditingJune 23rd, 2011

People often ask me, “do you photoshop your pictures” or “can you switch my head” or “I blinked in that shot, is it possible to fix it”. There are all different kinds of variations of things people ask me when it comes to editing pictures, and the answer to everyone’s question is YES – I do it all. But do I like to do it? That is a different answer….. Haha. All jokes aside, I actually do enjoy doing crazy edits and saving pictures, but with weddings the number of photos taken can be upwards of 1,000 – 3,000 images!! There is no way I would be happy to fix 1,000+ photos! So as a professional I quickly learned to “get it right the first time”.. Meaning, shoot the image correctly with the right settings, avoid distractions in the background, and check to make sure everyone is paying attention with eyes open looking at the camera, no blinks! This all might sound easy but believe me it’s not!

For selected images by request – the “bloopers” are usually corrected and the unedited versions are deleted never to be seen by another person. I have been just deleting the bloopers for YEARS, never letting the images be viewed by another person other than myself and the customer. I know about my skills and abilities, and when the customer sees the results they know my skills and abilities, but not many of you readers and hopeful future customers know what I can do. So here is just a little taste of some fun Before & After photos from the April 18, 2010 wedding of Hannah & Daniel Quinn, so you can see a small sample of some of the work I do. (These images are all cropped so you can get a bigger/better look at the edits made).

The Mill at the Stone Barn Wedding – Laurie & BenjaminJune 18th, 2011

Today’s wedding ceremony & reception was held at The Mill at the Stone Barn, this was a very unique wedding location, with lots of great opportunities for photos. I didn’t even have time or opportunity to break the surface of this places potential, I wish I could go back again sometime with another bride and groom just for photos, or a model.

Wedding Tip: Should you go Traditional or First Look?June 17th, 2011

There is an excellent article written on the first look by EverLastDetailblog.com, you should read the article it will help you decide. To me, as a photographer, the big advantage of the first look is that ”You will have created spectacular images that you can enjoy for the rest of your life”, also the images can be however you want them, and easier to capture emotions better in a controlled or more beautiful setting. Another advantage is the stress factor, the first look is less stressful for the bride and groom if done “first look” style in a beautiful garden, versus the traditional way done in the church at the altar. As a photographer, you can schedule more time for creating those special images for the bride and groom AND also do it traditional style when the bride makes her first appearance at the entrance. To me, it’s better to do first look & traditional!!! A great article, enjoy the read!!

Wedding Tip: Some Couples Tell Guests to Put Down Their Devices.June 13th, 2011

When I came across this article it really hit me because I see it all the time. Almost everyone wants to be a photographer these days, and people just can’t help themselves with taking pictures, even with the worst cameras in the world, they try to take pictures of everything they see. For whatever reason, I have no idea.. But almost everyone is connected to social media these days and almost everyone has some kind of camera (Digital camera, 35mm film camera, point and shoot digital camera, cellphone camera, etc.). With so many cell phones and smart phones out there, wedding images are uploaded instantly to Facebook and other social media sites! Even in a lot of churches, priests make an announcement to not use cellphones or cameras to take pictures and no flash during the ceremony. A lot of “photographers” complain about it, maybe they are jealous or whatever but as long as they don’t get in my way and block me from doing my job, I honestly see nothing wrong with it. As a professional, I am quick and I can usually plan where to position myself before the shot happens, so wedding guests with their cameras don’t really bother me unless they are standing where I need to be to get my shots. This does occasionally happen (most often during cake cutting or family photos at the church) but I have no problem politely asking them to move out of my way, and usually when they see my huge camera and my bulging biceps they have no problem moving out of my way!! haha :) For those persistent people that make it their goal to be annoying, a little friendly nudge and kick in the butt might be needed!! haha jk ;) But yeah, if you are hiring a professional to document the day and he/she has a free photo gallery for all of the guests to see and enjoy the professional photos for free, it’s a no brainer, tell those uncle bob to put down the camera so every picture that the professional takes of of him won’t be blocked by the camera up to his face..! haha

The Off Beat Bride (click here) has an excellent article with HILARIOUS pictures that are 100% REAL, I have seen stuff like this in my years as a wedding photographer.. This is well worth the time to read, very entertaining stuff here and there are a lot of excellent points made!

Autobahn Car Show – Egg Harbor New JerseyJune 12th, 2011

The Autobahn Car Show was today, it was a really nice day for a car show, not super cloudy, and not too hot. I had a really crazy farmers tan because I don’t really go out much, so I took the opportunity to work on my tan by wearing a sleeveless shirt. BAD MISTAKE, especially since I didn’t wear sun screen…. The turnout for the show wasn’t that great, I think mostly because the sky was a little gloomy and there was forecast of rain. Also because there was another big car show happening not too far away Ocean City Car Show in Ocean City Maryland. It is a real bummer because I was hoping that the show was gonna get bigger and bigger than previous years, but unfortunately that was not the case. One of the clubs there was Triple Threat Motorsports. And DJ was provided by my buddy Double E of Next Generation DJ’s.
