Model Shoot: Helen Zhang

July 21st, 2011 No comments

Met up today with model Helen Zhang, since the weather was hot outside we were only going to shoot in studio, but we had an idea to shoot with graffiti so we hopped on google maps and started looking around for some graffiti in philly. We found a spot and decided to wait until after 5pm so it wouldn’t be as hot, so eventually we bared the heat and ventured outside. On the way to our shoot location we looked at the temperature gauge in the car and it said 101 degrees!! And that was around 6pm when it wasn’t even the hottest point of the day… Wow!! But yeah, we had a lot of fun and got tons of great images that I can’t wait to share later.

Here is some video clips of Helen’s shoot & post shoot interview!

Model Shoot – Gabby (round 2)

July 18th, 2011 No comments

It is always a pleasure to shoot fun & interesting models who are excited and open to do many things! This beautiful girl needs no introduction, Gabby has been seen on my blog already once before… I shot Gabby back in February, on my birthday, because she needed head shots for her agency. We didn’t shoot on my birthday for any special reason, it just so happened that she was available to shoot that day and so was I. So now that she is already in that one agency, she is looking to get into a new agency and they wanted to see her with a different hair style so she came to me again for head shots.. She really only wanted head shots, and a couple quick shots outdoors, but we went picture crazy and didn’t put an end to our fun until about 4 hours later! I can’t tell which is my favorite, both studio and outdoors photos were fun and she enjoyed everything. She is soo fun and enthusiastic and open for anything, she will do good modeling/acting!

Here is Gabby’s post shoot interview!
(Be sure to watch it in 1080p HD!!)

Shot with Whitney Star today, this was just for a test shoot. This was a Meet & Greet kinda thing, so the shoot is basic and we just wanted to get together to become familiar with each other and make plans for upcoming projects.

So I’m editing a couple of Rachel’s pictures that we took in the studio yesterday.
Here is one that I finished, well… I’m not sure if I’m 100% satisfied yet, so I’m still playing with it.

Easter Day – Post Apocalyptic Couples Shoot!!

April 24th, 2011 No comments

Most people eat candy and hide eggs on Easter. Not me, I work and have fun taking pictures!!! I met Kandi on ModelMayhem and she was interested in doing a shoot with her fiance and mentioned that they have a dark/gothic style to them, and I noticed it in her pictures a post apocalyptic style picture and bam the light switch came on!!! “Lets do a post apocalyptic couples shoot!!!!!” I have never seen this done before so I’m gonna say score for me, more originality points!!

Anyways we went to a couple locations that I know of that were close to my favorite meeting location IKEA South Philly! I know a bunch of other spots to shoot the post apocalypse theme but it would require more traffic and going to north east philadelphia, kensington, port richmond, but I didn’t want to spend all of our shooting time on the road. So, for the first spot we visited today there are some trains that looked like they have been sitting for a while, so we made ourselves at home while being cautious of all the sharp barbed wire and rusty metal on the ground.. Then we walked to this nearby place that had a whole bunch of wooden crates, and finally we ended up at my all time favorite shooting spot that I have been to MILLIONS of times. What a great day for pictures, 81 degrees and the sky was nice, hottest day of 2011 so far..

Most photographers, when they mess up on photos they edit them HEAVILY (adjusting brightness/contrast/saturation and more) to cover up their mistakes.. I don’t have to edit my pictures because they come out good from the beginning, but for this shoot I chose to edit them to fit the post apocalyptic theme, below is a sample of what my photos look like before edit. I am providing my couple with edited and non-edited photos just in case they don’t like my editing.

Passion Entertainment – Agency Shoot #2

March 9th, 2011 No comments

Did a second shoot for a somewhat new agency today Passion Entertainment.
They are all very nice people to work with and the girls are all nice too, the shoot went well and was very quick.
Took about 300 pictures in an hour.

We did two different sets, first set was a laying down bed set.
Consisted of a bed with comforter and black background.
Second set was a standing set with a cool blue background.
We used an ink pen as a prop and pretended it was a lollipop.
Yes, that is not a real lollipop she is holding!! :)

Had to hide her identity because she is a student and doing this work to pay her way through law school.

This particular shot I was not too fond of but it was the clients pick so this is it!
The reason I’m not too fond of it is because of the body torso positioning.
She is leaning forward a little which makes the torso look short/compressed/overweight.

I have some other shots that are more interesting and artistic that I would like to edit one day when I get free time.
And I would like to swap out the background for something more interesting, just hope to find free time!!

Chinese Model – Gabby

February 18th, 2011 No comments

Gabby emailed me looking for headshots and she is interested in becoming a model. She contacted me from her account on modelmayhem and she is trying to get into modeling more. When we met I knew I was in for a challenge, we had no makeup artist, no hair stylist, and only the few clothes that she brought so we were limited on what we could do. But it was alright because she didn’t want to do anything too crazy, she just wanted to do a short and simple shoot so she can get back and boost her portfolio. She is kind of a rocker chick and really digs Avril Lavigne so we did some rocker/punk style pictures too.. Here are a couple of her favorites that she picked for me to edit, I didn’t get around to editing any pictures that I like yet..

Passion Entertainment – Agency Shoot

February 17th, 2011 No comments

A few weeks ago I was contacted by an agency, they loved some of my modeling photos that they saw somewhere on the net and asked if I shoot nudes. To me, nudes is the same thing as shooting models, just with less clothes, no biggy… I was told that they are looking for classy nudes, no raunchy stuff, I am all about nice classy photos. Today I did shoot (1 of 3) for the agency, Passion Entertainment, just a warning – this is not a model agency, it is an adult entertainment agency. Teamed up with my good friend and Makeup Artist – Alanna we had a great shoot. The lady from the agency was very nice to work with, and the “model” was very nice too; looking forward to more shoots in the future.

We did a couple different sets for this shoot, first we started off on the bed doing some laying down poses. For the shoot we just used a bed, with a fluffy comforter and used a plain black background.. Since my studio space isn’t very spaceous and not very luxurious looking (it sure isn’t no playboy mansion) I had to rely on my editing skills to switch out the background..

For the second set, we wanted to do some standing 3/4 body shots.
So I set it up with a really cool purple background that I used in the past.
We had a lot of fun with it and even did some full body shots using a chair.

This last shot above, the client was kind of disappointed because I “made her look too good”!!! I was surprised when I heard this, then it was explained to me that if customers want to meet her, they will expect her to look like she does in the picture…(McDonalds and Burger King need to follow that slogan because their value meals look nothing like they do in pictures!!).. So anyways yeah, that’s understandable, but I was told to make her look thinner, accentuate her rear and breasts when editing this picture.. Guess I got a little carried away, but after a few tries I made it to a look she was comfortable showing to clients..

I was not particularly fond of any of these pictures, but they are the images picked by the client, so this is it!
I have some other shots that are more interesting and artistic that I would like to edit one day when I get free time.

Just for fun, here are a couple BEFORE AND AFTER shots, just to show the amount of time and editing that went into some of these..

Michelle – Suzuki Hayabusa 1300R

March 16th, 2008 1 comment

I was contacted by Michelle a few months back to do a shoot with her and her bike. It would have been nice to be in the studio but we still had a VERY successful shoot, I brought backdrop, lights, and diffusers to the garage and had most of it setup before she arrived. Here is the end result.
