Wedding Tips: 8 Wedding Expenses You Should Never Skimp On

May 14th, 2011 No comments

I found this article on WeddingStand.com – 8 Wedding Expenses You Should Never Skimp On. The article makes some pretty good points, and interestingly the #1 thing that they list is Wedding Photography.

“#1. Wedding Photography. Do not hire your friend because she took one photography class. Do not give all your guests disposable cameras and hope for the best. Wedding receptions tend to be dark, busy, and complete nightmares to photograph. It takes the skills of a professional to correctly capture those memorable moments. You put so much time into your wedding and no matter how you feel now, you will want pictures to look back on later.”

Very true, very true!

Try getting an evenly lit shot like this with your friends point and shoot camera or guests disposable camera!!! HA!

Luciens Manor Wedding – Erica & Steve

May 2nd, 2011 No comments

Todays wedding was like that TV show, My Big Friggn’ Wedding.. EVERYTHING about this wedding was big, check out the pictures you’ll see what I mean. The spring weather is really kicking in, awesome perfect weather, I wish it was like this every day! So we started off at the bride (Erica’s) parents house, this was our second time here because last year we shot her sister Tia’s wedding. Erica was really easy to photograph so I couldn’t put my camera down, every move she made gave me more ideas and she loves being in front of the camera so it was perfect. And this wedding is extra ordinary because she has 14 bridesmaids and Steve has 14 groomsmen, so yeah, BIG friggin wedding all the way!!

Portuguese Wedding – Vera & Jacinto

April 16th, 2011 No comments

When I arrived at the wedding it first it sounded like people were speaking Spanish, then other people were talking in what sounded like Russian… I never claimed to be a know it all or a would traveler, but I have met many people that speak many languages, and this Spanish/Russian hybrid language had me Stunned!! It wasn’t long before someone said “Portuguese” then I figured out the whole deal. The day started in south philly at the brides home where we took some pictures of her getting ready. We had a new videographer with us so it was interesting, and I was watching some of the things that he was doing so I can learn some new video shooting techniques and different angles. Then the limo bus from ETA Worldwide came to pick up the bride, and dropped her off at the church. It sucked that it was all rainy outside so we didn’t get to shoot outside but we still got some cool shots at the Incarnation Of Our Lord – Roman Catholic Church.

Philly Wedding – Sarah & Mark

April 9th, 2011 No comments

GREAT DAY FOR A WEDDING!! The weather yesterday was cold and rainy all day, today was the complete opposite!! I think it was close to 75 degrees all day and the sun was out and there was a nice cool breeze blowing around, absolutely perfect day for a wedding. And what makes it even better is that everything is all in philly and it’s all really close, so we packed light with out equipment so we didn’t have to carry a bunch of big bags around with us all day. Parked the car in Old City then took a cab to the location where we were to meet the bride, just so we didn’t have to worry about traffic and finding a parking spot when we got there. So when we arrived at the Ritz Carlton Philadelphia when we got inside and went up to the room on the 27th floor I was going nuts taking pictures of City Hall because I have never seen it from so high up before and I never knew when the opportunity would come again… Then started taking pictures of the groom putting his cuff-lings on and his really nice Rolex. After the groom was ready we went over to see the bride in her suite, took pictures of her getting ready and her flowers from Sansone & Co Inc. Florist. She had a really cool veil from Unveiled Brial Designs that really complimented her look and her dress, everything was perfect!

Wedding at Please Touch Museum – Cheryl & Douglas

April 8th, 2011 No comments

For today’s wedding I am shooting video and second shooting photos. I really didn’t get to take many photos at all which is unfortunate, but it was still a lot of fun doing video and I got a lot of great stuff. The weather was super cold and it rained ALL DAY!! Wow talk about a bummer!! And the part that makes it even more of a bummer is that todays wedding was at the Please Touch Museum, that place is awesome! For those of you who don’t know what it is, it’s like a big playground for kids, even big kids have fun with the stuff in there!! I heard of it before and I actually shot here once before doing an engagement shoot. We just kind of stumbled on it when we were driving around Fairmont Park and we just shot outside of the building, I never actually went inside before until today! When I heard that today’s wedding was at the Please Touch Museum I was surprised and EXCITED, also they had a big band coming to the wedding, The Sensational Soul Cruisers. Like last week I mostly shot video so I don’t have much to show here, I only really took photos during the reception so here they are…

April Fools Wedding – Kelly & Tony

April 1st, 2011 No comments

Happy April Fools!! I knew this day was gonna be full of jokes and pranks, when I was told I was going to be second shooting a wedding on April Fools my first thought was.. “is this a joke?!”. haha
For this day I was shooting video and doing pictures too, so I did not take nearly as many pictures as I usually do, but that is fine.

The wedding ceremony was held at Holy Cross Church, It is a pretty big place with 2 big sanctuaries, one on the first floor and one on the second, I never seen anything like it before!! During the ceremony, one of the things that the priest said really was pretty funny and he kinda had a good point, “at least you won’t have to worry about forgetting your wedding date!!” haha… Here are some pictures of the ceremony.

Wedding Salina & David

January 29th, 2011 No comments

It was a cold and snowy day in January, actually it didn’t snow that day but there was plenty of leftover snow on the ground from the big snowstorm that took place a couple days before todays wedding! We started off the day meeting the bride at her hotel suite in the Holiday Inn – Stadium. We took many shots of Salina & her bridesmaids getting ready. Then we went over to St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church to start the ceremony. After the ceremony we went to Love Park then we went to the Philadelphia Art Museum for more pictures. We ended the night at a reception hall that I have never been to before, Nicole Renee Occasions. It was a smaller venue but I was pleasantly surprised by how well it went. Unfortunately I forgot the name of the DJ’s business.

On with the pictures!!!

Wedding Tip: Saving Money on your Wedding Day!

January 22nd, 2011 No comments

Ok so there are many ways to save money on your wedding day. And I constantly think of more ways to save money, so I think this post will continue to grow and grow as I think of more things, instead of making multiple blog posts about this… I will probably eventually organize this nicely too, but for now, here’s all of my thoughts in a nutshell..

Your wedding venue may have decorations already!!! Ask them if you can borrow them.
This is much more effective than buying something new for your wedding that you will never use again.
But watch out, some higher end wedding venue’s might try to charge you top dollar to “rent” their decorations, where it might be better to spend a couple extra dollars just to buy it so you can have it forever..

Use your framed family pictures, that’s some free decorations that will catch people’s attention and they will be a conversation piece..
Moms and dads, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, grand parents etc… These images really add extra closeness, warmth and emotion to your day.

Another way to save a bit of cash is your wedding venue.
The location you select can seriously affect your budget.
Instead of a catering hall, you can opt for a less expensive venue.
A beautiful back yard
Fire Hall
Public Garden
Community Center
VFW
Barn
Winery
Historic Building
Restaurant
If you do have your heart set on a particular venue, opting for a Sunday or even a weekday is an alternative route to have your dream venue at a lower cost.
Also, there is a 90% chance you will be able to negotiate an even lower price during the off season (December, January, February)!!!!

Cutting your guest list is definitely the easiest way to cut wedding costs!!
And if you take my advice and do a Sunday, Weekday, or Off-Season wedding this might be easier than you think!!!

Never buy anything with the word wedding in it. I heard this advice before a loooooong time ago, it’s kind of common sense but it has been said many times and passed around forever. If you can find an alternate product, you will be saving money, kinda like buying generic stuff. It seems items such as “wedding shoes”, “wedding dress”, “wedding invitations”, “wedding cake”, etc.. have an inflated price just because the people who sell these things know that people go crazy for wedding stuff…
